How We Score Shopify Apps
Every app on RatedApps.io receives a single, transparent score built from three independent layers. No single opinion dominates. No developer can buy a better result.
Layer 1: Merchant Reviews (weighted 40%)
Real Shopify merchants answer a structured set of questions covering their experience — including store size, use case, setup difficulty, results achieved, limitations encountered, and what they would tell another merchant considering the app. Our AI drafts a review from their answers; the merchant edits and confirms it before publication. Every review is verified.
Layer 2: Editorial Analysis (weighted 35%)
Each app receives an independent editorial assessment written by the RatedApps editorial team. This covers the app's strengths, real limitations, value verdict by store size (small / growing / established), and an honest bottom-line recommendation — the information developers would never put in their own listing.
Layer 3: AI Legitimacy Score (weighted 25%)
In a market flooded with “AI-powered” claims, we specifically evaluate whether the AI functionality is real, measurably useful, and transparent about its limitations. We publish the score with a detailed justification so merchants can see exactly what we assessed.
The Final Score
The three layer scores are combined into a single RatedApps score out of 10. The full scoring rationale is published alongside every review. The methodology is auditable — if a developer believes a score is incorrect, they can contact us with evidence, and we will review it under our editorial independence policy.
Editorial Independence
RatedApps participates in affiliate programmes with PartnerStack, Impact.com, ShareASale, and direct developer programmes. Affiliate relationships are disclosed on every review page. They do not influence scores or editorial assessments. A developer cannot pay to improve their rating or suppress a review.
